Alive in this Dream
Listening For You
High on a hill I could see the cities below
And the clouds are just cotton
Never questioning where to go
I feel the night consume the light
As each little star breaks through
High on a hill in the world tonight
I am listening for you
I am crying out inside
And I don't have the strength to run away
And there's no place left to hide
And here the questions fade away
High on a hill in the world tonight
I am listening for you

Princess Mary
Five walked side by side atop the granite wall
In the drizzle of January in search of the fall
One Step Lightly I took upon the sand
Now I'm falling, falling just to see where I land
A girl named Destiny hit it home for me
When you feel it you'll know what I mean
Princess Mary looking harried
Looking bleak about the future
Princess Mary with her book
While her heart told the truth to her
The candle-dance pictures she watched from her bed
She tossed and she turned and she spoke to the dead
She said Father can you hear me the night is so still
There's not a hope that they won't or a prayer that they will
Five held tightly to a stone at the bottom of the sea
Primordial, forest sleep in the salty silent deep
One Step Lightly pulled up from the sand
Now I'm falling falling just to see where I land
In the roar I hear Destiny calling out to me
When you feel it you'll know what I mean
Princess Mary looking harried
Looking wild in your last hour
Princess Mary waits forever
As we walk outside her tower
The life in the water the light in the sky
We toss and we turn we keep wondering why
We say Father can you hear me
The night's filled with screams
They laugh at our windows and race through my dreams
Five walked side by side by side
When they came upon the gate
Joined by three where two would often wait
Side by side

Alive
Silently just the wings of the dragonfly
Sleepily wandering under the trails in the sky
Dying to come to the place where the land is alive
Alive in this dream funny though I can't get to sleep
Alive in this dream each morning I die and I never tell you
I die and I never know you ever
I let you go in the rain silently
Just a day like a thousand days
Hurry your hair's gotten wet in the rain coming down
Look out the window and see the confusion around
Alive in this dream funny how I can't get to sleep
Alive in this dream each moment I die and I barely notice
I die and I never want to remember
I let it go slip away silently
Just a flame in a darkened room
Burning a line in the flesh and the mind's coming through
A hand on the door and I know we'll both be consumed
Alive in this dream funny how I can't get to sleep
Alive in this dream each moment I die and I need to tell you
I die and I need to know you much better
I let you go anyway silently

For the Kings
Sand is falling through the glass let it pass
Like the painter by the Arno with his faces
What did he know what could he know
A sleight of hand a cryptic eye
A bit of paint a hidden smile for the kings
Watch the river rush by
Sands from the mountain and blood from the sky
Too many hours with dirt on the floor
Smile tiny baby for you know not
Blind like the Mother the mistress of God
Footfalls echo in the street let them pass
Just a beggar by the Arno with his crutches
What did he say what could he say
To make you turn and look away
As you clutch your coat on a too-cold day for the kings
Watch the river rush by
They fall from the mountain and crumble inside
Too many prayers and stairs that lead nowhere
Bent in the corner the dragon the lair still nowhere
Tears in the rain to muffle the sound
The Arno keeps flowing a stain on the ground
Sand is falling through the glass let it pass
Like the painter by the Arno with his faces
What did he know what could he know
Of birth rights and rings for the kings

Free
The temptation's getting stronger
Got your memory in the way
Days are nights and nights are longer
But still it's plain to see
We have laid it on the table
Yet we search without a clue
We'll go on if we are able
But deep inside I feel
I am free in your garden
I am free in your bed
I am free and forgotten
Just a solitary scream
In the Valley of the Dead
In your desert I will wander
Until I fall upon your shore
Just the clock is ticking on here and I know
I am free in your garden
I am free in your bed
I am free and forgotten
Just a solitary scream
In your garden in the rough where enough is not enough
Dig your hands into the earth and you're free

Oracle
Cloaked in wisdom eyes of a child
Gazed upon the mysteries
Saw the faces didn't see the smiles
Passed it all along to me
Knowing that I probably couldn't tell
The forest for the trees
And feeling that she really couldn't help
She let it be
So I took a look into her eyes
Rapture of the deep
Softly as a desert summer night
Her spirit spoke to me
Saying that I hadn't come too soon
Or maybe not in time
As I watched the shadows of her fear
Obscured the light
So I lit a candle in the night
And played upon my drum
Swiftly as the shadows hit her eyes
The visions all had gone
And standing in the middle of the flame
An oracle had come
Saying she might never be released
From what she's done

Hand to the Wall
Spiral round step up then down
Feel the pattern rubbed in this wall
A million hands worn through the sand straining in the dark
Feeling for the light ahead just around the corner
Praying to the silence just a little bit longer
Echoes in the dark 2,000 years dead
Laughing and crying as we forge ahead
Hand to the wall we follow them all
Feeling for the truth ahead just around the corner
Waiting in the silence just a little bit longer
Walk and walk the driest talk has droned us back awake
And wandering lost we knelt and crossed
The boulder in the cave
Feeling for the truth ahead just around the corner
Wondering in silence are we all alone here
Echoes in the dark 2,000 years dead
Whisper and chant as we move ahead
Hand to the wall we follow them all
Feeling for the truth ahead just around the corner
Aching in the silence just a little bit longer

Swings
So here I sit in two pieces with one half far away
Buried in the earth somewhere returning to the clay
Lily and Daffodil bit down on a hard pill to swallow
Everyone nodded and said so sad, too young like his father
And the swings still hang in the sun
The yellow dog's still on the run
The girl in the bubble keeps getting in trouble
Trying her luck with his gun
There it was in the paper, they cut it out for me
Forty-one the youngest son, survived by family
Violet and Rosy act like they know me so well now
We all sit down here sharing some brandy still wondering how The coat still hangs in the hall
The black box picks up every call
The girl in the bubble keeps getting in trouble
Writing in red on the wall
Let it come down hard so I know it's fallen
Let it come down loud so I know that it's there
Let it bring every demon and dervish it's callen
We'll see who wins when we play fair
If he were to take two emeralds and toss one in the sea
He'd surely take the other one and hide it far from me
Aster and Daisy think I'm crazy but they don't understand
The car still starts on a hill
The lilacs have grown fairly ill
The girl in the bubble has kept out of trouble
And learned how to sit very still
Let it come down hard so I know it's fallen
Let it come down loud so I know that it's there
Let it bring every demon and dervish it's callen
We'll see who wins when we play fair

As You Hold Me
Your warmth in the night brings no comfort to me
Shadows prevail but my eyes still see
Secrets you keep and webs that you weave
And my spirit grows cold as you hold me
Truth in the wind is the prize you seek
Struggle again are the words she speaks
So you throw down your glove to the powers that be
And my spirit grows cold as you hold me
Time has a way of leaving us behind
Searching for a place we may not ever find
Then we wake one day and find we're all alone
And all the ones we've loved have gone
I'd kiss you again if I thought it would please you
Or silence the wind try to set you free
But the quest and the prize are all that you see
And my spirit grows cold as you hold me
Time has a way of leaving us behind
Searching for a dream we may not ever find
Then we wake one day and find we're all alone
And all the ones we've loved have gone

Today
Descending this morning from heaven to earth
The mist took me back remembering the shroud
Bound tightly with linens baptized in the surf
But today I return on wings of a cloud
Cool whiteness surrounds me I dare not speak
And falling forever so lost in a dream
The earth speared my nest with a deep-emerald peak
The valley below gleamed dew-kissed in green
Joy clutched my soul as the memories came back
Struggling and fighting I longed to tear free
I screamed and wailed and my body went slack
My new mother sighing and cradling me
Descending this morning from heaven to earth
The mist took me back remembering that cry
Asleep I let go of my life before birth
For today I return on wings from the sky

The Edge
Morning cutting shadows in your eyes
Morning come in light
I'm on the edge of waking up
In my dreams I find it harder and harder
To keep this boat on the water from pulling me down
In the light I find I'm bruised and I'm battered
As if it would matter to you as you're leaving
I know you didn't mean it
What did you think I would build out of you
I know you didn't mean it
What kind of blade shall we pass through you
Let it bleed to the river
Rather die than forgive her
Let it bleed
Let it go
Let it
Can't let it
Let it go
In my dreams I find it harder and harder
To keep this boat on the water from pulling me down
Going down to the river
Going down to forgive her
I'm on the edge of waking up
